It is Well with my Soul

Image
"When peace like a river attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll, whatever my lot thou hast taught me to say, It is well, It is well with my soul"
Can you say, "It is well with your soul"? Do you have the assurance to know that whatever comes into your life God is with you every step of the way, during the times of peace and the times of sorrow?

Just this last week, I experienced a sudden onslaught of abdominal pain like I'd never had before. Terrible cramping pains in the night. By morning I felt better so thought it was just a passing bout with the flu. We had planned to go to Kansas over the Memorial Day Weekend to visit family and decorate the gravesites of our loved ones. As our trip progressed I continued to feel worse. By the time we got there all I wanted to do was go to bed. By the next morning, I realized that something was seriously wrong and that I needed medical attention. I didn't want to go to Urgent Care in Kansas, away from hom…

Great Is Thy Faithfulness

Image
Have you found yourself in a situation or at a time in your life when it seems God has turned his back and isn't listening or doesn't care what is going on?

Our God is always faithful. Sometimes when circumstances crash in on us we may question whether He cares and is in control, but He is there behind the scene orchestrating everything to our advantage. He has our best at heart. If we wait for His timing, He will accomplish what is best.
Psalms 37:7&9  "Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. For evildoers shall be cut off; but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth."
My observation has been that God is partial to the word "wait". When we have to wait to see God's hand move we are in good company. Think what it was like for Noah and his sons to build the huge ark in the middle of the dry land. I'm sure th…

April Snow brings May...?

Image
Spring! This is my favorite time of year. The flowers and trees had begun to bloom and new life was in the air. The peonies and lilies peeked their noses through the ground.  We had begun to plant our garden with onions, potatoes, and broccoli and lettuce. ...And then there came hard freezes, snow, and sleet alternating with 50 to 60 degree days. It can be very discouraging!!
And yet the days continue toward Spring. It will come! There will be May flowers and summer gardens. Spring brings forth new awakening after the dormancy of winter.
It is a picture of the Death, Burial, and Resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

This brings to mind Ephesians 2:1 & 4-9. "And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;  But God who is rich in mercy, for His great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ …

Love is in the Air

Image
I John 5:9-11 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
February--Love is in the Air What comes to mind when you think of February? In spite of the cold winter weather, I think of Valentines Day and the love that is shown in many ways that day. More money is spent on gifts for loved ones on Valentines that any other time of year. And yet, true love comes only from God. He showed His great love for all mankind when He sent His only Son to the Earth to give His life for our sins. He became our substitute, making it possible for us to know how to love, both God and one another.

The Month of New Beginnings

Image
2018  Happy New Year
Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. Jeremiah 33:3
January is the month when we look forward to new beginnings. Although, winter isn't my favorite season of the year, (I would rather be warm than cold.) I am confident that God will bring blessings into our lives. We have many things to be thankful for. One of my favorites is the bright, cheery Cardinals, which flit through the bare branches of the bushes and trees bringing color and hope. Another harbinger of hope is the seed catalog we received in the mail the other day. It reminds us that Spring is on its way. If we just wait and have patience the four seasons will come as God has promised.
Philippians 2:9-11
And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; That ye may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ; Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto t…

My novel, Romance Along the Rails will be released on Amazon, January 23rd. I am excited to share Elise and Daniel's story with you. It has been in my heart and mind for many years. I want you to appreciate the importance that the Harvey Houses and Harvey Girls had on the civilization of the West. It has been said that "Harvey Houses were islands of American culture, linked to the 'homeland' by the Santa Fe rails...The appearance of the Harvey Girls mirrored the appearance of the Harvey Houses: clean, businesslike, and efficient, with little or no personal variation from person to person or place to place. Their uniform, hair, and makeup codes were outlined in deta…
